Open position:

Lifesaving Veterinarian

Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation is an animal welfare

organization based on the North Shore of New Orleans,

Louisiana. We provide valuable programs as alternatives

to euthanasia to lower the number of animals entering

shelters and the ones being killed there. Additionally,

we provide valuable resources to other shelters and

rescues, which would otherwise not be available to

help them, further reducing the numbers entering and

being killed in shelters.

We are looking for a part-time Veterinarian to work 20-30 hours per week on a contract basis performing spay/neuter surgeries and assisting with emergency triage, fracture management, hospice, and internal medicine cases as needed.

We are looking for a veterinarian who is excited by the challenge of making decisions based on physical examination/carefully chosen diagnostics and history, without all the bells and whistles of a large, fully-staffed animal hospital. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of small animal experience and be comfortable providing high quality and high volume spay/neuter services and managing a high volume medical caseload. This person will co-manage, along with a Clinic Director, the onsite clinic and serve as a mentor and leader for all clinic staff and volunteers.

  • Support the foundation of work that has already been established by working within set policies and procedures, and abiding by the mission that no animal will be turned away or euthanized because of space and time constraints while managing resources tightly.

  • Participate in outreach events to deliver low- and no-cost care to those who can't visit us.

  • Work with CEO, Clinic Manager and other staff to set new procedures, evaluate and improve old procedures, and keep Big Sky Ranch/CATNIP Foundation on the cutting edge of low-cost treatment.

  • Work civilly at all times with other organizational staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and fosters to strive for unity and effective team work.

  • Assist organization in conserving funds and finding new opportunities to seek additional funds and in-kind donations.

  • Participate in clinic and staff meetings.

  • Answer emails and phone calls as needed.

  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications & experience:
