Ashland was trapped as a tiny kitten alongside his mother, Frieda, and his two sisters in a neighborhood with strict HOA rules. Though some kind neighbors fed the family, growing hostility from other residents put the cats in serious danger, prompting Big Sky CARES to step in and bring them all to safety. Having experienced human hostility at a very young age, Ashland developed a deep-seated caution that stayed with him into adulthood. While he went through months of dedicated socialization, Ashland ultimately made it clear that he prefers a quiet, independent life away from human interaction.

Today, Ashland enjoys a privileged setup living inside the Executive Director's house, where he feels completely safe and relaxed. If a new face walks through the door, you’ll rarely spot him—he is a master at slipping into his favorite cozy hiding spots until the coast is clear!

Ashland is currently receiving anti-viral medications to treat stomatitis, a painful mouth condition, and will likely need dental work in the near future to keep him comfortable.
